disp47_c3-c3.5.jpgAs the climbers set out from Camp 3 they are met with the first sunny morning of the summit push revealing breath-taking views. The day's plan is to reach Camp 4 for a shot at the top the following day.  After plowing all day in waist-to-chest deep snows, and after 3 days of breaking trails alone, they were halted at the base of an 80 ft. ice tower where they created Camp 3.5. bruce_don_chris_k2summit_rb.jpgchris_bruce_bydonbowie_rb.jpg Dear Friends -

Just a quick note to let you all know the members of the team have all returned home safely.  Don was the first to fly out.  After the doctors got a good look at him, they determined that he tore 3 ligaments - not sure yet if surgery will be needed but it looks like he'll need at least 4 months to heal.   I returned late last Friday night and just about hugged the customs guy, even after he detained and questioned the scrawny, bearded guy just arriving from Pakistan.  Chris Stensland, Chris Warner and Bruce Normand all flew out on Sunday night (although Bruce reports while waiting in the Islamabad departure lounge, he nearly slept through the boarding of his flight) and are all in various stages of reclaiming sleep,  lost weight,  and recognition of themselves in the mirror.

czech_chris_rb.jpg We are safely back in base camp. Safely back from the summit. Safely back from a challenging descent. And safely packing barrels for the trip home. But the stories keep coming and we want to share them. The only problems: our last two laptops have died (I'm writing this on a borrowed unit) and we have a more pressing responsibility than the crafting of pithy phrases. Our team is still focused on the evacuation of Don, with his broken leg.
