After enduring another closed weather window and returning
safely to base camp earlier this week, the team's spirits have been buoyed by
the news that a summit chance looks very promising early next week. Once again we will be watching the weather
very closely through the weekend to confirm the projections and nail down the
specifics.
In the meantime, the team made use of the last bit of this
week's good weather to do a bit of clean up.
Getting up at 2 am and then taking advantage of the day's sunshine,
Bruce, Don, and Chris shuttled up the old route in order to retrieve the tents,
supplies, and fixed ropes from the old Camp One. It took some doing as they found about 90% of
everything was frozen in place. Chris Stensland and I also pitched in; meeting
them at ABC to help ferry the 60 lb pack loads back to base camp. After the long day, it's likely that
everyone will turn in early tonight. So, forgive the brevity of the dispatch
but please enjoy the video, which is the third part of the team's previous
fight on the Abruzzi Route
and their decision to turn back on K2 for the
fourth time.
After watching it, we hope you will continue to send us your
very best wishes and thoughts, for if things continue to line up as forecasted,
the 5th time is the charm.
