The Team effort on the move from ABC to Base Camp.
5:00am: The first wave has left for ABC. They expect to arrive in the next two hours.
5:10am: Joel radioed Chris Warner to let him know that the Team has left and Fabrizio of the American Team and Sergey from the Russian Team both have radios. At that point, Fabrizio responded to let Chris know that he had heard message and confirms he was on his way. Chris replied, "Thanks Fabrizio, we are totally psyched you are coming."
5:41am: Fabrizio radios to Chris that the whole team is together and just entering the icefall. Chris replied "Ok Fabrizio. Thanks. I'll wake the boys and start making tea."
6:17am: Sergey's Russian Team begins fixing the passage through the icefall. He also reports that he has placed several wands, borrowed from the American Team, topped with high visibility tape, marking the safe path for the second group of volunteers.
7:30am: Fabrizio's Team reaches Don and the rest of the climbers at ABC and begins the trip back down.
7:45am: Ralf and Gerlinde lead the third team setting off with about eight porters through a low hanging fog and misty snow towards the snowfield preceding the icefall.
7:50am: Fabrizio's Team reaches the top of the icefall and radios Sergey that they will take a 10-minute break. After which they will begin the trip with Don through the precarious maze of seracs that the Russians have now fixed with ropes.
8:14am: In a conversation between Sergey and Fabrizio, Fabrizio estimates 20 minutes to meet the Russians.
8:17am: Ralf calls and both he and his group are 20 minutes from the lower start of the icefall.
8:55am: Joel radios Chris Stensland for an update. Chris S reports that Don has now gotten on the stretcher. He has descended through the rocky section below ABC and the tricky section of the seracs under his own power. (Note: Amazingly, this only took Don approximately 20 minutes to navigate). Chris S noted that they are all wearing crampons and that the Russians did a phenomenal job of setting ropes to secure passage in the icefall. When exited, Ralf, Gerlinde and the porters are waiting and Chris S also noted that everyone was extraordinarily generous and eager to lend a hand. At present, there are seven people on the stretcher and they are moving at a surprisingly brisk pace. Chris S estimates that if they continue to maintain this pace, they will be back at Base Camp in two hours.
